Today, Variety reported that Electronic Arts (EA) has obtained all required regulatory approvals to complete its proposed $55 billion acquisition by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, Silver Lake, and Affinity Partners. According to an SEC filing, EA expects the transaction to close on Aug. 4. In response, Players Alliance HQ member Zefrine issued the following statement:

“The Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States has failed the American consumer. By approving this unprecedented and corrupt $55 billion acquisition, private equity and the Saudi PIF gain a dangerous foothold in the video game industry, threatening the affordability and creative freedom that are critical to the success of gaming. Tens of thousands of gamers behind the Players Alliance HQ are activated and mobilizing to hold EA accountable and prevent its anti-consumer practices from spreading across the industry.”
