Safeguarding & Protecting Gamers Rights
Corporate studios have spent years weakening consumer standards while forcing more aggressive ways to make gamers overspend. Players Alliance HQ believes gamers deserve honesty and transparency from corporate studios instead of systems designed to manipulate consumers and maximize profits.
What We Mean When We Say Consumer Rights
Consumer rights in gaming simply means gamers should actually get what they paid for without deception or bait-and-switch tactics. Corporate studios should not be able to quietly take away games people purchased, hide prices behind confusing virtual currencies, or build gambling-style systems designed to pressure gamers into overspending. We, the gamers, are eager to support our favorite games, and we want our favorite studios to be commercially successful, but we will not accept dishonest practices.
The Three Biggest Threats to Gamers Today
Corporate greed is pushing the gaming industry toward more aggressive anti-consumer practices that hurt gamers and weaken gaming itself. As corporations chase bigger profits, gamers are increasingly losing control over the products they buy while monetization becomes more manipulative and exploitative.
1. You Don't Actually Own What You Buy
More and more corporations are selling gamers licenses instead of true ownership. That means games people paid for can disappear overnight when servers shut down, licensing agreements expire, or corporations decide to remove access. Gamers should not lose access to products they spent their money on because executives changed their business strategy.
2. Virtual Pricing Is Designed to Deceive You
Many games now hide real prices behind premium currencies designed to make players lose track of how much money they are actually spending. Companies intentionally create confusing pricing systems that encourage overspending and make it harder for gamers, especially younger gamers, to understand the real cost of purchases. This encourages overspending.
3. The Games Are Rigged — Literally
Loot boxes and gambling-style mechanics are increasingly designed to manipulate gamers into repeated spending through randomness, addiction loops, and psychological pressure. Corporations are turning core parts of gaming into systems built around maximizing spending instead of rewarding skill, creativity, or fair gameplay.
How Players Alliance HQ Is Fighting to Protect Gamers Rights
Players Alliance HQ is building public pressure against the corporations driving these anti-consumer practices and organizing gamers to fight back together. Our campaign to Block the EA Deal is part of that effort. We believe allowing private equity firms and corporate investors to gain even more control over gaming would accelerate many of the same practices already making the industry worse for players.
